About German Shepherd Rescue New South Wales

We are a compassionate not-for-profit organisation dedicated to finding loving homes for abandoned, surrendered, and rescue dogs from shelters across New South Wales.  Our volunteer-run rescue ensures each dog receives necessary veterinary care and rehabilitation, making them ready to find their forever homes.

Your generous donations over $2 are tax deductible, going directly to the care and welfare of our rescue dogs.  Every contribution helps us create wagging tails and new beginnings.  Explore our adoptable dogs on Petrescue and be part of transforming lives today!

Penelope is now in our foster carer. Your help for dogs like Penelope makes a huge difference.

Our Mission

German Shepherd Rescue New South Wales is a registered charity comprising a committee of experienced individuals who share a deep passion for rescuing and rehoming our cherished German Shepherds into forever-loving homes.

As a not-for-profit organisation run entirely by dedicated volunteers, we devote our time and effort to this noble cause.

Our mission is to utilise all available resources to rescue and rehome as many German Shepherds as possible within New South Wales.

We are determined to prevent dogs from facing euthanasia, abandonment, or neglect, and we work diligently to ensure their placement in secure and caring households.

We are also committed to offering the public advice, referrals, and education to promote responsible dog ownership.

Through a dedicated network of volunteers in New South Wales, comprising transporters, foster carers, dog trainers/behaviourists, administrators, fundraisers, and generous donators, we come together to make dog rescue and rehoming possible.

Our dogs come from various sources, including German Shepherds found in pounds or shelters, referrals from other rescues, and owners looking to rehome their dogs for different reasons

After initial contact, if possible one of our volunteers will come and meet your dog to assess it for rehoming.  Based on the assessment, if we can assist, we then advertise on Petrescue and on this website, and then assess all applications.  Once we have an application that we think will fit, we then organise a meet and greet.  Whenever possible, the dog goes directly to its forever home, eliminating the need for foster care.  If a dog requires behavioural support, it may go to our trainer prior to going to its new home or can come to one of our training days after being adopted.  During foster care, the rescue covers all expenses for food, beds, collars, leads, and veterinary treatment.

We are grateful for our dedicated volunteers and foster carers who play a crucial role in our work.  Without their kindness and generosity, our mission would not be possible.  Additionally, like all rescues, we rely heavily on donations.  The cost of boarding dogs and Veterinary treatment constitutes our greatest expenses, and we also use donations to provide food, supplies, and support to our foster carers, ensuring the best care for our dogs.
